How does linen feel compared to cotton?
Linen offers a unique texture and feel compared to cotton. Initially, it feels cooler and slightly crisper but softens beautifully with each wash. Its naturally textured and breathable weave regulates body temperature and wicks away moisture, making it ideal for hot sleepers and comfortable year-round.
In contrast, cotton is usually smoother and softer straight away with a tighter weave. However, it can feel flatter and more uniform and doesn’t regulate heat and moisture as effectively. Linen boasts that signature texture that gently moves against the skin, almost like a soft subtle massage. Furthermore, being a 100% natural fibre, you can feel how it naturally warms in your hands as it quickly adapts to your body.
If you favour a relaxed, breathable, lived-in luxury feel, linen is the perfect choice.
Is your linen vegan?
Yes, our linen is completely vegan.
It's made from 100% plant-based flax fibres, with no animal-derived materials or treatments used at any stage of production.
Just pure, natural comfort, kind to your skin and the planet.
Will linen bedding wrinkle?
Yes, your linen bedding will naturally wrinkle, and that's part of its charm. Wrinkling is a hallmark of 100% flax linen, actually a sign of its authenticity and softness. At Malua, we embrace these natural creases as a feature, not a flaw. Our linen is stonewashed, giving it a beautifully lived-in look from the first sleep and making it even softer over time.
If you prefer a crisper appearance you can lightly iron it, but many of our customers fall in love with the effortlessly relaxed, textured aesthetic just as it is.
Are colour variations in linen normal?
The slight colour variations in Malua sheets aren't defects; they're a natural characteristic of genuine linen. This is especially true for our Natural shade, which remains completely undyed.
As the linen grew in the field its true colour remains, so different batches may vary slightly.
These subtle differences are a beautiful reminder you're sleeping with a real natural fibre.
How deep are your fitted sheets?
Our fitted sheets are designed with generous depth to ensure a perfect fit on most mattresses.
Each sheet features a depth of 30cm, making it suitable for standard and deeper mattresses alike. The elasticated edges provide a secure hold, so your sheet stays in place, even if you’re a restless sleeper.
Just smooth it on and sleep easy.
Why does my linen bedding shed lint or loose fibres at first?
Lint shedding is normal in the first few washes of 100% linen, especially washed linen like Malua. This is because linen is a natural fibre and tiny particles and loose fibres can be released during the initial washes and nights. The more softened the fabric is during production the more noticeable this may be, as some microfibres can remain in the weave and become visible later.
This doesn't affect durability. The wash finish softens linen, making it more comfortable and very resilient. The shedding usually improves significantly after about five washes as the fabric stabilises.
To reduce shedding: wash linen separately for the first three to five washes, use a gentle cycle, and avoid high spin. Skip fabric softeners and air-dry when possible. Steaming or light ironing can also help settle fibres (optional).
Where is your bedding made?
Our linen begins as flax grown in northwest Europe, with yarn spun in certified European mills carrying the European Flax® / Masters of Linen® certification.
The yarn is then sent to Portugal, where it's woven into fabric and sewn into bedding by small family-run workshops, then dyed and stonewashed in small batches.
Finished bedding is warehoused in Poland, ready to ship to your door.
About Malua
What is Malua’s design philosophy?
Malua's design philosophy centres on creating a sanctuary at home, a calm, intentional, and beautifully lived-in space.
We prioritise timeless design, natural materials, and thoughtful craftsmanship. Every detail is meticulously considered, from our refined colour palette to our understated branding, to ensure our bedding feels both elevated and grounding.
Our aesthetic harmonises heritage softness with modern simplicity. This approach prioritises comfort, longevity, and a sense of quiet luxury, aligning with a slower, more meaningful way of living.
What colours do you offer?
Malua presents a thoughtfully curated and timeless colour palette inspired by nature and interior harmony.
Our intentionally soft, grounding shades are versatile and blend seamlessly into any space, adding depth and warmth. We prioritise earthy neutrals and muted tones, evoking a sense of calm and quiet elegance.
Each colour is carefully chosen from the Pantone palette and refined through our own lens, never accidental. We don't chase trends; we prefer classics that last.
While seasonal releases introduce new shades, our core palette remains steadfast, built around enduring favourites rather than fleeting trends. This ensures your bedding always feels relevant, refined, and beautifully timeless.
Is Malua an eco-conscious brand?
From field to finished product, our bedding is thoughtfully crafted with the planet in mind. We use 100% flax linen, with yarn spun in certified European mills carrying the European Flax® / Masters of Linen® certification for fibre origin and yarn spinning. The bedding itself is woven, sewn, dyed, and stonewashed in Portugal in small batches.
To minimise our environmental footprint and reduce transport emissions, we keep production close to home. Our packaging is minimal, recyclable, and plastic-free.
Sustainability is part of how Malua works, not a marketing line.
What makes Malua different?
Malua is designed for those who prioritise sleep over aesthetics.
We use bedding-grade linen: 100% flax at 175 GSM. This substantial fabric is built for sleeping, not the lightweight linen used for curtains and clothing.
Our pieces are sewn in Portugal by a trusted manufacturer who also supplies hotels. Our colours are custom-produced, thoughtfully chosen to stay timeless rather than trend-driven.
As a small family-run brand, our sole focus is linen bedding for better sleep.
